Corinne d'Arboussier Carr - Knitwear Designer-Maker
Corinne Carr was born and raised in the centre of Paris. It was there that her grandmother first taught her to knit and purl as a young child. It was a hobby that alllowed her to explore her creativity, flair for design and love of colour. She was making her own clothes and jewellery by the time she was a teenager.
While enrolled at the Sorbonne, Corinne came to Cornwall as a assistant language teacher and settled permanently in West Penwith as she fell in love with the region instantly. She taught French for many years at Penwith College and at her cottage in the evenings. In her spare time she made jumpers, hats and scarves for herself and her two young sons which inevitably led to a gallery owner in Truro admiring her designs and commissioning an order. Corinne has never looked back. After years of working out of her studio in her cottage near St Ives, in 2010 Corinne opened Gallery Latitude 50 where she now works at her knitting machine surrounded by a superb contemporary mixed show by artists and craftspeople from Cornwall and beyond, assembled and curated by herself. Her latest collection of knitwear can also be found there. Visitors to the gallery are welcome to meet Corinne and see a designer-maker at work - from the initial design concept to the finished project. |
